My Camera Gear Breakdown

As promised on my Instagram post... here are my go-to camera gear essentials that have elevated my photography game:⁣

Embarking on a journey through the fascinating world of camera gear is like entering a realm of endless possibilities, creativity, and boundless exploration. I vividly remember the time when I was an absolute newbie in this universe, completely clueless about terms like ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. If you're in the same boat, fear not! I've been right there with you, and let me tell you, the transformation from camera novice to gear aficionado is nothing short of magical. And yet - I still feel like there will ALWAYS be something to learn. Some see this as discouraging but in reality it is so EXCITING! technology changes every day and we should be thrilled to get to witness it.

My personal transformation began with a simple, yet powerful tool that you probably already have at your fingertips: YouTube. The plethora of video tutorials available on this platform is a treasure trove of knowledge, waiting for you to unlock its secrets. Pair that with blogs like the one you're reading now, and you've got yourself a formidable arsenal of information. But what really sets the stage for a successful photography journey is a supportive community. Thankfully, I had the privilege of having photographer friends who welcomed me with open arms, instead of gatekeeping the secrets of the craft.

And then, there's social media – a double-edged sword. It can be a rabbit hole of inspiration, a place where you can discover the works of talented photographers, and even get direct insights into their gear choices. Below you will find my current gear and you might be surprised as to how simple it really is. Some photographers lean heavily on the technical aspects, obsessing over pixel-perfect sharpness and mastering the intricacies of gear. On the flip side, there are those who are unapologetically artsy, focusing on mood, emotion, and storytelling through their images. The beauty of photography lies in its versatility, allowing room for both these approaches, and everything in between. There's no right or wrong way to capture the world through a lens. So, whether you're drawn to the technical details or you're an unabashed lover of the artistic, embrace your unique style, because in the end, it's your vision that makes your photographs truly special.

For Photography & Sometimes video:  I mainly use my Sony A7iii. This is my ol’ faithful. (I dropped it this past summer so I might be needed an upgrade in the coming year or two but not until I definitely have to) I love mirrorless. I tried it mostly because I was hiking with my camera a lot and it was so much just carrying a heavy camera around with me along with everything else and my dog. It’s light and fast. It’s got great continuous focus and maybe it’s just me but the images just feel crisper. Oh! I also like that you can silence the shutter and the option to turn off the red light when you focus.

For travel - This one’s my new baby - The Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark II
I LOVE this little point and shoot. It fits in my little fanny pack and the images come out so good. It’s use to lug around my maine camera on trips but now all I have to take is my point and shoot. It’s so worth it especially if your other hand is occupied with caring a suitcase, someone’s hand or a dog on a leash. Legit even fits in your pocket.

For GRWM and other reel related things - no secret here - my iPhone 14 Pro has been a very good options for this. Especially with phone editing apps - it’s so fast just to quickly cut things together and post right then and there.

Remember, the gear you choose should always align with your creative vision and the type of photography you're passionate about. Whether you're a street photographer, a landscape enthusiast, a portrait artist, or an all-around adventurer, there's a perfect combination of camera and lenses out there waiting for you. My journey has been a constant evolution, guided by experimentation and discovery, and it's a reminder that photography is about more than just the gear—it's about storytelling, emotions, and the love for the craft. So, don't be afraid to explore, learn, and adapt your gear to your ever-evolving needs. In the end, it's the images you create and the moments you capture that truly matter, regardless of the equipment you use. Happy shooting, my fellow photographers! 📷✨
